MLK Days of Service

Coach Across America

Sunday, February 1, 2026

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others?” Throughout the month of January and February, Coach Across America’s service members joined thousands of other individuals across the country as we re-committed ourselves through service to one another and our communities. A day on, not a day off!

From coast to coast, our coaches stepped beyond the sidelines and into their communities. In NYC, coaches volunteered at Crossroads Community Services, stocking pantry shelves and preparing breakfast bags for the week ahead. In Chicago, they supported the Marillac Food Pantry, while in New Orleans they packed meals for families during Million Meals for MLK. Together, their efforts will help feed hundreds of families.

In Philadelphia, CAA members partnered with the Lee Cultural Community Center for a long-overdue cleanup of a site featuring a mural honoring Martin Luther King Jr.. Thanks to their hard work, the space was refreshed and ready to be enjoyed in time for MLK Day.

On the West Coast, in LA and Oakland, coaches joined forces with Sobrante Park Resident Action Council, Insane Bike Posse, Oakland Parks & Recreation, and the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Monica for neighborhood cleanup initiatives. Meanwhile, another New Orleans site partnered with Excite All Stars to clean and organize their space, setting the stage for a strong season ahead.

The Coach Across America VISTA cohort came together virtually for MLK Day of Service to honor Dr. King’s legacy through action and reflection. The VISTAs began by sharing the values that come to mind when thinking of Martin Luther King Jr., with education, empowerment, and leadership standing out as key themes for the session.

Dr. King’s quote, “Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education,” framed both the discussion and the service activity. Showing up with purpose to share knowledge and empower others strengthens communities and turns learning into meaningful service.

The highlight of the event was a skill-sharing activity in small groups. Each VISTA had the opportunity to teach a skill to other members, reflecting Dr. King’s values of leadership and empowerment. VISTAs shared practical skills such as breathing exercises, surfing, improving credit scores, and traveling on a budget. VISTAs left with new skills and tools they can bring back to their host sites and communities.

No matter where they were, one thing was clear: our members are committed to making a difference however they can. We will continue to carry the values of Martin Luther King Jr. Coach Across America service isn’t a moment — it’s part of who we are.
